Do you love your fate?
At one time Nietsche held the belief that we have to love our same lives over and over, every breath, every thought good or bad over and over for eternity, and he believed it best to accept and love the fate we had. When you look back on your life, can you love every moment of it even the bad times?

“When you look back on your life, can you love every moment of it even the bad times?”

    Yes.
I agree with Nietzsche on this one, and see shades of it in the Native wisdom of “The Longer Now”. For those who don’t remember my past explanations of it, of course one can only live in the Now. But The Longer Now is a vision (usually accessed through a Vision Quest) where this moment is seen stretching back not just through your life but back to the primordial beginnings.

It’s also like “The Cave Of Forever” wisdom, where each person is just excavating this particular part in the cave; some in unison with the general flow, some off on tangents with other groups or solo. But where we are now is an inexorable function of where we came from; from where the species, Earth and Universe came from.

But this are both visions for after one has reconciled and integrated their own personal past and are at total peace with it. I cannot imagine undertaking either of these exercises without that.

You asked in another thread for a “good memory” we might have to live for all eternity. My good memory would have to be my entire journey up to this moment.

@griz Yes, I do remember the longer now. I also still treasure the medicine wheel book!

The adventure is in the journey, not the destination…

Yes. I love my fate and how every step of my life has led me to this moment and this relationship, this house, this partner, and all the joys of my life.

Nope. I highly respect the sentiment and is awesome someone can feel that way, but I could just never do it myself. Even with situations that I have learned lessons, I have regretted them. I feel regret a lot, even it the moment wasn’t all that bad.

@Yin Interesting! Well it is good that you are self aware and recognize the emotion. That is one I don’t feel too much anymore. Maybe it changes as we age. I have learned to forgive myself for things of the past or things I think I could have done better. Sometimes I still feel a wave of regret over something I did that may have hurt someone else. Can you see a potential for future regret that you could do something about in the present?

@Scarlett2 Sometimes, I feel there is an issue where I did something stupid in the past, but I could never speak out about someone else doing it for I could be seen as a hypocrite or something along those lines. Like, I know what I did wasn’t ok or wasn’t the best, but that is now with me forever. I have worked on things to help me in the future, but it sometimes is an “in the moment” thing. I’d have to be there to see if it worked or not. Could be another reason for my media consumption. Keeps my mind off of it all and away from dumb stuff.

There are plenty of fates not to love
    Missing limbs
    Unemployment
Nonfunctional senses (blind, deaf, nerve damage to where you can’t feel, no sense of smell or taste)
    No friends
    Starvation
    Cancer
    HIV/ AIDS
    Obesity
    Diabetes
    Heart disease
    Addiction to drugs/ alcohol
    Rape or sexual molestation victim
    Torture victim
    Paralysis
    Various forms of death
    Death itself
    Hell, if it exists
These only scratch the surface of things not to love.
