How do you stay active? This could include going out and doing things or physical fitness? I work from home, so I often feel like I have a sedentary job, although I do have the luxury of being able to get up from my desk almost any time. I Was more active in previous years, going to the gym a lot. I still have my gym membership, but have slacked off. However, in the last six months I started wearing a pedometer and get 10,000 steps a day? Doing so cuts in to time of escapism or just relaxing. It is good to have balance in life. Tell about how active you are and if you would like to be more active, what is stopping you from doing so?

The older I get, the less I do.
In younger days, I could sweep and vacuum, then mop and shine the floors in a matter of 20 minutes. Yesterday, it took me 3 hours. Of course, some of that was moving furniture and cleaning. Then there were the moments of finishing the wax —- only to look back and see the cat in the middle of my floor with thousands of cat footprints !!! I had to go back and rewax. —- sigh….

I used to be able to clean two houses a day. Now, I could clean one room a day. I sit and rest a lot. I like to turn on the TV and then ….. I forget what task I was doing, but love the program I’m watching. Life is lazy and no one cares that I relax when I want to.

The older I get, the lazier I am.

I have gone to a gym to find what machines I enjoy the most. I like that machine with all the energy bars, nuts, and snacks in it. I can work out on that machine for hours!

@ladybarbara I did not realize that waxing floors was still thing? neat! Yeah, I think it is good to not over exert, know your limits, and be active only as much as able. I sure don’t have the energy I did in my youth.

For more years than I can recall I was very active, but those years were fraught with day to day conflicts like just surviving. Staying active wasn’t a choice of leisure, it was dodging war lords, tribal war parties, and potential dangers around every turn. Eventually, society began to settle down, became more civilized, and less aggressive.
Skip ahead a few hundred years, now the fun begins…we had the Hundred Years War, the crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, the Plaque, more crusades, the “mini-ice age”, and scores of other revolutions and squabbles between nation states. The rise and fall of empires, the rise and fall of would be tyrants, and the expansion of civilization westward.
The founding of a new nation, the First American Revolution (war for independence), and the Second American Revolution (civil war), followed by a relatively peaceful period, and then came the Spanish American War, The First World War, The Second World War, Korean War, Vietnam War, etc. etc.
Yeah, I was very active when I was younger, (younger being a relative term). Now as I have grown a bit older, I’m not as active as I once was…although the world is still just as full of war, violence, tyranny, and revolutions as it has always been. I simply choose not to participate in the insanity as apposed to how I participated when I was “younger”.

@immortal_pirate yeah, I kinda feel the same. I realize I can only do what I can do. I do what I can and let the rest go. I avert my eyes, don’t read the news or watch much anymore.

It depends on a variety of factors. The warmer it is, the more active i am. If i have energy, that will encourage me to be more active. Also, if i have something that absolutely needs to be done, that’ll spur me into action. Finally, if something i want to do comes along, i can be more active.

I engage in deep conversations with people, or create posts that are intending to do so (but with the awareness, at times, it will not).

Otherwise, I pace, and smoke. These days, vape.

I like to talk walks, but where I am at, the heat and lack of interesting places to walk to prohibit that. Colder now, but it won’t last.

I prefer walking at night, but this area is not good for that.

Also, trying to chill and relax more.
