Try thinking about the psychology that each position would produce in a person.

Which do you think would produce the best outcome for the species over time?

Having at one time, (and on multiple occasions), been a participant in the history of mankind, I am now an observer of history.
Too often I have left a footprint in the sand where I probably shouldn’t have…yet leaving no significant scar on the events of mankind that would have altered the path of human development, short of casting my seed where it would prove evidential impact on certain civilizations…I was most prolific in my youth.

So what advice might you have for those of us who are the functionaries of this evolutionary process?
Do you think we will gain better traction unto positive result by considering ourselves perpetrators of Human History; or victims of it?

@griz Victim-hood is a choice…Victim mentality is poisonous to the soul.
        I am not a victim.

Ultimately there is only the victim mindset and the Victorious mindset.

Choosing to be “the victim” will someday be rightly considered a form of mental illness. Because as you say, it poisons the very spirit of a person; and left untreated become sociopathic.

(For those who wonder why there are so many hardcore and softcore sociopaths running around trying to fatally deconstruct the society. It’s a contagion that spreads from the individual to the society)

I don’t thanks either of us is a legal agency: but rather, a moral agency.

So apply the appropriate definition of perpetrator.

Consider this historical exercise. If you were in Marxist Russia would you be the Proletariat or the Bourgeoisie?

@griz it’s still the exact same thing morally… except for that a victim needs protection/ care. Why do you think it’s important… wise… useful to see ourselves as the epitome of evil/ criminality/ wrong-bad-mistaken moral agency?

That’s toxic femininity Jear. What the victim needs is the competence to become the victor in their own life.

Because if you just protect (toxic-mother) them they never grow stronger. They become weaker and more dependent upon you.

Being able to experience history through the eyes of the perpetrator means accepting responsibility for the darkness that is in everyone’s soul. Jung spoke of the integration of the shadow. Before we do this we are a fragmented partial person: unable to exercise true freedom in our self or in the world.

The evil that is in the world is in each of us. Only in being fully integrated can the light overcome the dark.
It happens a person at a time.

And the only thing that might slow it down, are people afraid to be anything more than a fragmented fearful partial person — being victimized over and over again . . . By that which is within them, but which they desperately try to project upon the world.

Every single act of interpersonal evil can be stopped by just one person.

@griz so basically your message is to stand up to the bully, the thief, the murderer, the rapist… when doing so without having the ability to defend one’s self adequately is foolish. In this day and age, you do the wrong thing, you *both* may end up in jail. Or the tables get turned and only the person who’s defending themselves gets in legal trouble. No thanks. I’ll let those who are paid to deal with perpetrators do so.

You seem to have missed the part about first dealing with the evil within; instead of trying to project it all over everyone else and even unto God.
Most people have more than enough bitter resentment in them to work on mastering.

Deal with this first and other options for response will open up; somewhere between going Dirty Harry on their ass . . . and melting a way to hide beneath a rock of resentment and fear.

The dopey victimhood politics groups are butting their heads up against trying to change everyone else: which can only end in tribal warfare.

That’s a very heavy price to demand of society for just being too lazy to take responsibility for ones’ own personal development in competency.

@griz if there are no temptations not common… no integration necessary.

@griz we are only upset if we don’t realize we are capable of such things, and it really doesn’t take much to see it. Why do you think there are repeat offenders? Unrepentant sinners? People divorced multiple times? To the person who has looked into the darkness… had it look back at them, such is nothing.

It must have been the triple-negative that threw me off! (As in, are you catching all the negatives being employed?)

What you know is there, will have a harder time taking you by surprise the 2nd time. (Unless one is a fool?)

People repeat the same patterns . . . because they don’t what’s there lurking inside of them. Why else would they be ambushed down the same path again and again and again?

A defense of “stupidity” can only be hidden behind so many times before it becomes the manifest reality of a fool.

@griz not really. Maybe some part of them wants to be in these circumstances. Or even if they are a fool, it’s not your job… or mine to correct them. And doesn’t the bible forbid using that word? And if someone actually is… Pearls before swine?

The chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link.

We don’t presume the superior authoritative (tyrannical?) “right” to step in and make the correction for them. That is denying the “made in God’s image” sanctity of the individual.

But it IS our social and perhaps even racial duty to point to where correction is to be found — and where falsehood lurks.

It is not our job to “make” anyone correct, just as it is not our job to “make” anyone swine. They have the freedom to choose this within the sanctity of the individual. (And the choice to be swine, is a sad state of affairs in need of correction for the sake of the species).

But the entire march to everything good we have today is predicated on people being brave enough to speak the Truth (the Logos). This was a feature of the Mesopotamian messiah Marduk: he didn’t just “see” (he had eyes all around his head), but he could speak the “magic words” that brought order out of the chaos.
The Egyptian messiah of Horus had these attributes as well — the falcon avatar who’s cry made everyone “look up”, the “all-seeing eye of Horus” on the American $1,

The coward’s path of not saying anything is easier in the short run for the person. But most of the absolute silly, counter-productive and even maliciously-destructive manifestations far too common in today’s society, have come from cowardly retreat from full adult responsibility for the societal structure upon which we all stand.

I don’t think of history as a traitor or a victim. I don’t even understand what you mean. Can you explain?

I like what Malcolm X said about history:

A race of people is like an individual man; until it uses its own talent, takes pride in its own history, expresses its own culture, affirms its own selfhood, it can never fulfill itself. —Attributed to Malcolm X (El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz)

As you read history do you always side with the victims?

Or are you sometimes the perpetrator?

A race of people is a diverse group of individuals, who have agreed on a common set of values.

The sanctity of the individual is a concept that is foundational to Freedom. It extends back to Biblical times it is even instantiated in the Constitution of the United States. One does not have to prove they are an individual except maybe to themselves. But this leads to easily to a dark path of little more than virtue signaling.

Seeing the society as an individual is just a ready excuse for racism and exclusion.
