Argument I heard on NPR. Sounds good.

    AwwI don’t get it.
    I made $26000 last year… with nothing to show for it AND was on link at $192/mo, (until Nov) which effectively increased my budget to $28211. In order to get anywhere near being comfortable, I’d need to make probably 35-40k, but that wouldn’t allow me to “make up” for the fact i have nothing saved. In order to do that i need to make approx double the high end (80k) and invest and save. Even that won’t allow me to live super comfortably in retirement. I’ll probably be eating a lot of PB&J sandwiches, ramen for my meals.

      Did you ever notice me bitchin’ & whining at Griz for ‘keeping score’.
      Your suffering and/or incentive seems to have alotta score keeping thaat pops up alot.
      Maybe I don’t keep score enough?

      Maybe I keep score on different things?

      What is comfortable?

        @luftballooneyegouge
        A place of my own, without a roommate (a tiny house would do that)
        The ability to say “oh i want x to eat” and go out and spend $30 for the ingredients for a meal and not care or spend that much daily on meals and not care.
        The ability not to have to wait on my health insurance to pay for a needed procedure, and just pay out of pocket.
        That barely scratches the surface.
        I want a good life.

        $30 a meal for ingredients? You need to cut down on the saffron or something.

        @luftballooneyegouge LOL. I mean spend $30 and have leftovers. Rolladen costs about that, but you get a good 5-6 meals out of. The goal is to spend good money for excellent quality (read: organic to avoid the “dirty dozen” foods), grass fed beef, free range, organic chicken fine German wines, etc.

        I have a suicidal diet.
        I’m not sure, but I think I’ve eaten 2lbs of Skittles in less than a week.
        …canned chili and stew
        ….store bought Checker’s fries
        …..A&W root beer, french and vanilla bean vanilla ice cream
        …..MntDew whiteout
        ….one trip to a Japanese theme buffetmorgasbord
        ….& I snack on generic wheaties but mostly Skittles

      @Jear77 What someone was suggesting was a 1000 a month for every citizen. Which would boom the economy, etc.

        @five2one not quite. It would cause massive inflation, UNLESS the government passed a law that said that if prices were raised by so much as a penny, the government would shut the business down PERMANENTLY.

        @five2one

        THE GRAND WOULD GO TO A NEW TV, NEW LAPTOP, NEW IPHONE – ALL THE THINGS THEY DONT NEED. IT WOULD NOT GO TOWARDS RENT, EDUCATION, INFRASTRUCTURE, ETC.

        BEST BUY, APPLE STORES WOULD BENEFIT.

  2. There’s not enough rich people to support an effective redistribution scheme no matter how much you take from them.

    I think we need a parallel economy for desperation-alleviation that isn’t dollar-based riding alongside the current one. It might be a voluntary form of surplus-barter & distribution through social networking & crowdfunding. Maybe just crowdfunding & social networking will be the thing that saves us while we don’t even realize it’s happening?

    I think if there was some system for crowdfunding need-verification, so that people knew their money was going where it should, the voluntary response would be even more thorough.
    … and crowdfunding is in its infancy.
