Do you think the age to vote, drink, drive etc are reasonable where you’re from or should any of these be lowered or raised? Why or why not? Address one or all.

I think it is about right. We don’t have much trouble with drugs or drunks. But then, maybe it is because it is so hot here in the desert that everyone with a drug or drinking problem stays inside air conditioned rooms.

The only driving problems we have in our city is people from all over the country coming here for the NASCAR races. They drive through our city ignoring speed zones, traffic lights, and stop signs. I get to an intersection where the light is green for me, but the cross traffic is running the red light in a long line-up of cars. They act like they don’t know that red means stop. I know that there are stop signs and traffic lights in their own cities, yet, they come here and ignore traffic laws. They speed through our 15 MPH school zones at 45 MPH and it is dangerous. I try to stay off of the city streets whenever NASCAR comes to the IMS (that used to be called Phoenix International Speedway).

@ladybarbara it’s good you don’t have a problem with it where you are. I wonder about the age because male brains aren’t said to be fully developed until they are in their twenties. I have always thought 18 was a bit too young and just an arbitrary age to be called an adult. I think 21 is a little better.

@Tits McGee I am NOT your grandma. I am not anyone’s grandma. My life is unhindered by children and I have no grandchildren. I am enjoying the freedom that has left in my life. I will never be a grandmother to ANYONE!!!

Voting should be restricted to PROPERTY OWNERS/ HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD U.S. CITIZENS ONLY. If you are not a US Citizen, you DO NOT have the right to vote in the United States of America, anywhere.
The legal drinking age should be 25 nationwide. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Driving should only be for legal citizens age 25 and older. If you are not a U.S.citizen, you have no business having a U.S. Driver’s License.
All citizens, both male and female, between the ages of 18 to 24 should be require to serve a minimum of two years compulsory military service. No deferment for college, you can go to college AFTER your two year hitch in the military service, and the G.I. Bill will help pay for your education.
The Congress and the Senate shall only be paid at a rate of $15.00/hour with standard deductions/ pay week, and ONLY for actual hours worked. They shall NOT receive life time pensions after leaving office, go get a job at Walmart and earn your pay just like the rest of us.
Lobbyists shall be barred from entering the halls of Congress, and elected officials shall be barred from receiving money from lobbyists.
Any elected official or government employee caught taking money from special interest groups, lobbyists, or any other questionable source shall be fined $1 million and be sent to prison for not less than 10 years.

@immortal_pirate interesting! Can’t tell if this is satire or not, but either way it is pretty funny. We agree on something! I like the idea of raising the drinking age!

I have heard many times that it doesn’t make sense that you can go into the military but can’t drink until you are 21. While I understand where they are coming from, alcohol is so dangerous (to other people) that it’s hard for me to agree that it needs to be lowered. I’m a bit torn on the voting one. I mean, if people are old enough to be out there getting jobs and stuff, shouldn’t they get to vote? Or are they just too young and inexperienced to do that? I’d say probably leave them the same, maybe potentially lowering voting. Driving, not sure. I feel like raising it makes a bit more sense, but it is hard to do that if 16 is when people are getting part time jobs and whatnot.

@Yin many think. the voting age should be lower to vote.(16 seems to be the magic number) I think younger voters would likely vote like their parents.

@Scarlett2 Yea, that is very true as well. I know I didn’t get into politics until very late and when they had one of those mock elections, I picked either Bush or Kerry over Obama because I knew who my guardians were going for. That is kind of an issue, yea. I mean, if they believe in that person, fine, but they should know something about the choices first. I feel kids today are more aware than they used to be, but that isn’t guaranteed. It may need to stay the same. It is just a little odd how things require different ages and how jobs and voting are different.

Lower the drinking age, legalize pot for responsible adult use (tax the shit out of it and keep it away from minors). Incentivize public transit to make failing poor drivers less socially costly.
