If you had to live one memory from your life for all eternity, which memory do you choose? I thought about this last night and it made me realize that nothing is ever perfect.

As I said in the Amor Fati thread, the memory I would choose if I had to live it for all eternity, would be my entire journey up to this point. Most happy memories are just moments in time lasting moments, hours, days, or weeks if we’re lucky. If one is going to be trapped in a time-loop with just one, why not pick “the best” — and that would be the entire journey of my life.

Now I think I fall outside the curve on this question because I no longer believe the the “happiness crap”. It is simply a reactive emotive state that pursuit of makes one a prisoner to every agency, save their own.
I’ve replaced happiness with the far more worthy pro-active goals of joy and meaning. Happiness often comes and nests within them. But they remain entirely worthy and powerful motivators even when happiness flits away and cannot be found.

@griz that is a noble pursuit! I think I have replaced happiness with acceptance.

There is no “one memory or moment” that would fit this scenario. Every breath I draw, from this moment foreword to eternity and beyond…

@Tits McGee Immortal Pirate is many years younger than I am. In this day and age 60 is NOT old.

Every chapter in my life is full of happy memories. Like a string of identical pearls, which pearl is most special? And the not so happy memories have memories of me handling it very well and things working out as I start another pearl of adventure.

You are right, nothing is ever perfect. I do treasure that moment I super glued one husbands dick to his thigh while he was napping (exhausted from making love to another woman all night long). That exhilarating feeling of freedom as I walked out of the door. I knew that I had my life in my capable hands. My plans were made and I knew I would be just fine. But, the happiest moment was his phone call from the hospital emergency telling me how the acetone burnt him when the nurse was peeling his dick away from his thigh and balls. Life has had so many happy moments, but none compare to knowing you have your life ahead of you and you are in complete control of your future. —— and you just paid back a hurt to someone who hurt with thousands of stabbing hurts for the past years. Karma!!! I would not want to live that over and over, but it was an I Am Spartacus moment.

@ladybarbara indeed, I can relate to the pearl analogy. With most of my exes I can look back and see the happy times! Not quite like what you described, tho. Ha ha.

There are two memories that I am ok with. There is one with my uncle where I was a kid and we were just chillin’ at home. It was a cool spring or summer day. Windows open. Watched him play Goldeneye on the N64. Other was a bit more chaotic. It was at my brother’s with some family and a lot of their friends for someone’s birthday party. There was an inflatable water slide. Not a fan of kids, but that was a fun day.

@Yin That does sound nice! Nothing better than the windows open. I have seen many people find refuge in video games. I think humans need some form of escapism. Mine is movies.

@Scarlett2 I love the idea of blinds open and windows open, but I just can’t do it much anymore. Just the idea of people being able to look in. I hate it. If it isn’t that, it is the thought of bugs (mainly mosquitoes) coming in. I live in a trailer park, and I am the last trailer where the park’s dumpster is. It gets frequent a lot, which people could look in a lot. I agree that people need escapism, but I feel like I have abused it for the most part. I am miserable for the most part unless I am playing a game or watching YouTube, movies, shows. I mean, I’d rather waste my time that way than be miserable, but it just doesn’t seem right.
